Sorry for kink shaming you.

We have a cultural foot(step) fetish.

We love the phrase “following in their footsteps.”

Like there is some kind of validation in doing something that someone else already did.

In reality, we are simply dumping the accountability of making a novel choice.

Instead of owning our own discernment - our own taste - we say “if it was good enough for them…”

THIS IS NOT INHERENTLY BAD.

We have to learn from our peers and from our past. We have to build on what has already been done.

But so often we lose sight of WHY our leaders took that path in the first place and lose ourselves in the WHAT and HOW they did what they did.

People are always asking what kind of pen I journal with. Like it f*cking matters.

We start looking for a brighter future and lose ourselves looking for some kind of shortcut, or hack, or better, faster, easier, cheaper, smarter way to get there.

Some way to get ahead of the person who carved the path.

Spoiler alert: if you’re following someone’s footsteps, you’ll always be in second place.
