How old does someone have to be before we think they are an alien?

Aging Season 9 GIF by Friends

In other words, what age does someone have to reach before we start to wonder if something fishy is going on?

I used to think the queen was never going to die.

It seemed like she hadn’t aged in 20 years, and even though she eventually moved to a nice farm upstate, there once existed a non-zero possibility that she would live to be 187 years old.

Obviously, if the queen were 187, we would start to seriously question our understanding of the royal family, life on earth, physics, etc.

But it wouldn’t happen all at once.

Like any small changes over a long period of time, it would be hard to notice.

No one blinked an eye when she turned 90.

Would we raise the question when she turned 100?

110?

120?

150?

Somewhere on the curve, there exists a point where we can no longer ignore that the queen appears to be playing by a different set of rules.

Here’s a poorly drawn graph.

I think it’s 130.

Jeanne Louise Calment (1875-1997) is the longest-lived person in history. I think the queen beating it by 8 years would be pretty un-ignorable.

Season 4 30 Years Old GIF by The Office

A quote I’ve been thinking about that happens to also be about the queen.

The royal family thinks the world smells like fresh paint.

Your perception of the world is your own.

Though we try our best to reach logical conclusions based on facts that appear to be verified, we can never fully understand or appreciate our own lens and bias.

If we perceive things to be true, are they? Or are we coming to unjust but ultimately logical conclusions?

How can we recognize our own mistruths?

All old people need this.

Enough about the queen. I’m going to go sleep like a king. Or at least in a bed big enough for one. Unless they’re from California, where kings are apparently taller than anywhere else.

be good
