5 Quotes I am thinking about this week
Heraclitus / Sinek / Lorimer
This was a week that we will all remember. While this is not intended to be a partisan political newsletter, I wanted to share a few quotes rattling around in my head these last few days.
Take them as you wish.

5 NEW QUOTES: Stepping back into the river.
Over 100 years ago, George Horace Lorimer wrote the distinctly underrated Letters From A Self-Made Merchant To His Son.
While completely fictional, the short collection of letters contains some of the most brilliant lessons in shaping a good life.
Fair warning, you have to treat it like a Walmart greeter. If it says something offensive, just remember it’s really really old. I mean it was written when Teddy Roosevelt was in office for god’s sake.
A few relevant quotes for the week:
Poverty never spoils a man, but prosperity often does.
A man’s as good as he makes himself, but no man’s any good because his grandfather was.
Speaking of Teddy Roosevelt, his predecessor in the Oval Office was Grover Cleveland, the first US president to serve two non-consecutive terms.
If you’re anything like me, this week feels more like a recurring dream than anything.
Of course, as we have changed, and the world has changed, it is anything but the same.
No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.
We all stepped back into the same river this week, but like all things it feels different to each and every person who stepped in. To some, it was the sweet relief of a cool dip on a hot summer day. To others it was more like being shoved into a Six Flags lazy river after watching a kid take a shit in it.
Either way, you should probably not process it alone.
A shared joy is a double joy. A shared sorrow is a half sorrow.
If you are struggling with the events of this week, reach out to someone.
On a recent episode of Simon Sinek’s The Optimism Podcast, he mentioned a study showing that it only takes an 8 minute phone call with a trusted friend to feel better.
Take the 8 minutes.
Better yet, call me if you need 8 of mine. → (517)930-4511
